1. Introduction

These Terms of Use ("Terms of Use") set out the rules for acceptable conduct when using the Voice For Locals Work web application (the "Work App") at work.voiceforlocals.org.

Voice For Locals ("Voice For Locals", "VFL", "we", "our", or "us") operates the Work App as part of the Local Champion / job seeker programme. By accessing or using the Work App, you agree to these Terms of Use in addition to our Work App Terms & Conditions and Work App Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree, you must not use the Work App.

3. Who May Use the Work App

The Work App is available only to individuals aged 18 or over who participate in or apply for the Local Champion programme and hold a valid Voice For Locals shopper account.

You must not allow any other person to access the Work App using your account credentials. You are responsible for all activity under your account.

4. Acceptable Use — General Conduct

You agree to use the Work App honestly, lawfully, and in accordance with programme standards. In particular, you must:

  • Provide accurate and truthful information in your champion profile, training submissions, and business sign-ups
  • Treat businesses, consumers, programme staff, and other participants with respect
  • Follow training instructions and complete assessments independently unless group work is expressly permitted
  • Use the Work App only for authorised programme activities
  • Comply with applicable UK law, including data protection, marketing, and consumer protection legislation

5. Business Sign-Up Conduct

When signing up local businesses, you must not:

  • Submit business details without the owner's knowledge or consent
  • Falsify business information, addresses, contact details, or campaign metrics
  • Pressure, harass, or mislead business owners into signing up
  • Sign up businesses you know to be ineligible, fraudulent, or duplicate entries
  • Claim credit for sign-ups you did not genuinely facilitate

Business sign-ups must reflect genuine local businesses willing to participate in the Voice For Locals platform on informed terms.

6. Representation and Identity

You must not misrepresent your relationship with Voice For Locals. In particular:

  • Do not claim to be a Voice For Locals employee, director, or authorised agent unless you hold a separate written employment or agency agreement with us
  • Do not use Voice For Locals branding, logos, or materials except as expressly permitted for programme participants
  • Do not imply guaranteed earnings, employment, or official government endorsement unless expressly authorised in writing by Voice For Locals

You may describe yourself as a Local Champion, programme participant, or job seeker in training as applicable to your current stage.

7. Photos and Content Standards

7.1 Profile Photos

You may upload up to five profile photos (JPEG, PNG, or WEBP; minimum 800×800 pixels; maximum 3MB each). Photos must:

  • Accurately represent you
  • Be appropriate for a professional community programme context
  • Not contain nudity, violence, hate symbols, or illegal content
  • Not infringe third-party copyright or publicity rights
  • Not include misleading images (e.g. photos of other people presented as you)

We may remove photos or suspend accounts that breach these standards.

7.2 Biography and User Content

Your biography and any content you submit must not:

  • Contain defamatory, discriminatory, or harassing language
  • Include personal data of third parties without lawful basis and consent
  • Promote unrelated commercial services, pyramid schemes, or competing platforms in breach of programme rules
  • Contain spam, malware links, or phishing content

8. Referral Sharing Rules

When sharing your referral code via WhatsApp, email, SMS, clipboard, or device share sheet, you must:

  • Clearly identify yourself and the Voice For Locals Local Champion programme
  • Provide honest information about the programme nature and that earnings are not guaranteed
  • Obtain consent before sending messages to individuals where required by law (including PECR/ePrivacy rules for electronic marketing)
  • Not send bulk unsolicited messages ("spam") or use purchased contact lists
  • Not share referral codes in contexts that violate platform rules (e.g. social media groups prohibiting promotional content) where you have reason to know such rules apply

Referral sharing must comply with our Work App Terms & Conditions referral programme rules.

9. Quiz, E-Learning, and SCORM Integrity

Training assessments, quizzes, e-learning modules, and SCORM content must be completed with personal integrity:

  • Complete quizzes and assessments independently unless group collaboration is expressly permitted
  • Do not share answers, use unauthorised aids, or employ another person to complete assessments on your behalf
  • Do not manipulate, reverse-engineer, or tamper with quiz systems, SCORM progress data, or training stage records
  • Do not falsify completion certificates or training timestamps

Breaches may result in training reset, certification revocation, account blocking, and forfeiture of commissions.

10. Commission and Invoice Integrity

You must not:

  • Submit fraudulent or inflated commission invoices
  • Claim commissions for businesses you did not sign up or that do not meet qualifying criteria
  • Create duplicate or fake business entries to inflate metrics
  • Collude with business owners or other participants to generate artificial campaign activity
  • Manipulate leaderboard rankings through fraudulent sign-ups or referrals

All commission claims must reflect genuine, verified programme activity as displayed in the Work App.

11. Prohibited Conduct

You must not:

  • Access or attempt to access accounts, data, or systems you are not authorised to use
  • Interfere with the Work App, backend APIs, or related infrastructure (including denial-of-service attacks, scraping, or automated bulk access)
  • Upload viruses, malware, or harmful code
  • Harass, threaten, or abuse Voice For Locals staff, partners, businesses, or other participants
  • Discriminate against any person based on protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010
  • Use the Work App for any unlawful purpose
  • Circumvent account blocks, training gates, or payment requirements
  • Sell, sublicense, or transfer your account or programme access to another person

12. Third-Party Services

The Work App links to or integrates with third-party services including Calendly, Stripe, Klarna, YouTube, and WhatsApp. Your use of those services is subject to their own terms and policies. You must comply with those terms when using linked services through or in connection with the Work App.

We are not responsible for third-party service conduct or availability.

13. Suspension, Blocking, and Termination

13.1 Grounds for Action

We may suspend, block, or terminate your access to the Work App immediately, with or without notice, where we reasonably believe you have:

  • Breached these Terms of Use or the Terms & Conditions
  • Engaged in fraudulent business sign-ups, commission claims, or referral abuse
  • Misrepresented your affiliation with Voice For Locals
  • Submitted inappropriate photos or content
  • Cheated on training assessments or manipulated SCORM/quiz data
  • Violated applicable law or harmed the reputation of the programme
  • Been marked as blocked by programme administrators for employment or conduct reasons

13.2 Effects of Suspension or Blocking

Where your account is suspended or blocked:

  • You may lose access to training progression, commission submission, and leaderboard features
  • Pending commissions may be withheld pending investigation
  • Block reasons may be recorded and displayed where appropriate
  • Your shared shopper account may be affected depending on the severity and nature of the breach

13.3 Appeals

If you believe a suspension or block was made in error, contact support@voiceforlocals.co.uk with your account email and a description of the issue. We will review appeals in a reasonable timeframe but are not obliged to reinstate access where a breach occurred.

14. Intellectual Property

14.1 Our Intellectual Property

The Work App, its design, code, training materials, logos, trademarks, and programme content are owned by or licensed to Voice For Locals. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use the Work App for authorised programme purposes only.

You must not:

  • Copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from Work App content except as permitted for programme activities
  • Remove copyright, trademark, or proprietary notices
  • Use Voice For Locals branding in a way that suggests endorsement of unrelated products or services

14.2 Your Content

You retain ownership of photos and biography content you upload. By uploading content, you grant Voice For Locals a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, store, and use that content for programme operation, rankings, and promotion of the Local Champion programme (as described in our Privacy Policy).

You warrant that you have the right to upload and license your content and that it does not breach these Terms of Use.

15. Reporting Concerns

If you become aware of conduct that breaches these Terms of Use, report it to support@voiceforlocals.co.uk. Include relevant details (account email, business name, description of the issue) to help us investigate.

We may take action based on reports at our discretion and are not obliged to disclose investigation outcomes to reporters.

16. Changes to These Terms of Use

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. The latest version will be available on our website and linked from the Work App. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance, except where prohibited by law.

17. Governing Law

These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, subject to mandatory consumer protections applicable in Scotland or Northern Ireland.
